Tuesday, 27 February, Queenstown New Zealand.

Sydney 18 degrees when we left; Queenstown 18 degrees when we arrived, but of what a difference 2000km makes.

Sydney airport - gloomy, cold and raining

Queenstown airport, sunny, clear skies - but still a little cool.

We're here to celebrate Dave's 70th birthday and the Queenstown Sofitel is doing it in style for us...
It's just (?) a little different from this time five years ago, when I rather rashly thought an adventure in East Timor might be the way to go for Dave's 65th. After all, he's a fan of a bit of adventure - a la trekking in Nepal, the Kokoda Track, rallies from London to Cape Town via Saudia Arabia, Peking to Paria vai Mongolia, et al...
So it was onto Dili and the mountains of Timor Leste.  Country  magnificent, tourist facilities zero.

right: one of the bathrooms we had in East Timor.

I think I prefer Queenstown...................

Anyhow, here's the plan for the next week or so.:
.
Next: A day trip from Queenstown
