Tuesday, 19 May, Kuala Lumpur Our landlords had warned us not to leave food out, as the squirrels around here are a bit of a problem. We haven't seen any, but this morning, there was evidence of where they'd been. Or rather, what they'd eaten, as I hadn't tied the knot on the bread bag up properly. So Dave had to forgo his plain bread for toast, and instead, had my multi-grain stuff. Last night, coming back to the Villa Minas, as this little house is called, I stopped to get this photo of the entrance, which suggests quite an intriguing house beyond...
It occurred to me that if ever an Indo Chinese version of the Grimm Brothers fairy tales were turned into a movie, this place would be the ideal set! It's just as well we don't have anything planned for today - DB isn't his usual self, with a cough developing into a sore throat. Just as well we'll be home, or at least back in Australia tomorrow. He'll be happier being miserable there. (later) Our light schedule went as scheduled!. Ticking off things to be bought before we headed home. Like Chanel No.5 for me, and a Christian Dior fragrance for our friend Julie. And a haircut for Dave. In previous times, we have relied almost exclusively on taxi transport to get around. This time, since we are only 100metres from a metro train station, we have used trains for every trip. And it's been a bit of an education. On one line, for instance, the trains generally have two carriages set aside for women passengers only. And not only the carriages, but also the waiting areas of the platforms. That's a pretty good idea. I realise we are actually running out of things to do in KL. It's now a case of been there, done that - some of it many times over. Maybe it's time for a change of scenery. As I write this, a big-time KL storm is raging, giving us a spectacular farewell to the city. Going out with a bang. Back to the Home page |
In a hair salon at MidValley In parts of Malaysia (particularly the far north-east state of Kelantan), it would be frowned on, possibly illegal, for a female hairdresser to cut a man's hair. No problems here in multi-cultural KL, though.
