Rabanal, Spain, 6 May, Friday- 21km

Well, I won't pretend today was easy: 21km in five hours of walking (and several stops), but we are now resting at our scheduled overnight stop at Rabanal, a small village whose economy is kept alive totally by pilgrims walking the Camino.

Today, among the scores of pilgrims who passed us, was a man from Copenhagen, and our paths crossed a few times today when we stopped for coffee, tea, food etc.. He is walking the full Camino, not just the excerpt we're undertaking.  Mind you, he is considerably younger!  He said some days he aims for 30 to35kms - that's when his body says "No more!!).  My body was saying that at about the 18km mark.  A rest, followed by a shower and bath (yes, both), was the perfect antidote.

Tomorrow's 18km is supposed to have a fair bit of climbing and a long descent...we might see if we can get a lift out for the first few kms, just to make it a bit easier for ourselves...  We'll see

Anyhow, some pictures from today:

A common sight here in Spain - small villages, with the houses clustered around the church - like chickens with a mother hen!  The churches often have elaborate interiors.  The church just down the road from our guest house in Rabanal is a good example:

Check out the very elaborate teapot we were served with today in a hamlet!  A tiny work of art!.

Churches cater for more than just people - this one is used by nesting storks:

right: My smile is deceptive - this was taken at the 20km mark for the day, and I was aching all over!
